Dr. Kewal Kishan Talwar (Padma Bhushan Awardee) is a Renowned cardiologist and a former chairman of the Medical Council of India. He is a former head dept of cardiology AIIMS, New Delhi & Director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. Before Joining PSRI Hospital he was Chairman Cardiology Dept. at Max super Speciality Hospital, Saket for 6+ years. He is credited to have performed the first implantation of Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) therapy in South Asia & has been featured in the LIMCA Book of World Records in 1997. He is also credited with the introduction of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy in India also listed in LIMCA Book of World Records. He is a recipient of several honours including Dr B. C. Roy Award, the highest Indian award in the medical category. He is a former president of National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) and a fellow of Indian National Science Academy (INSA). The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2006, for his contributions to medicine. His work on Cardiac arrhythmia helped develop it as a speciality in India and developed Heart failure & Heart transplant program at AIIMS. His work has been documented by way of several publications which include 240 articles and 270 abstracts, published in various peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also contributed 15 chapters to various medical texts.
